Super Critical Mass
Details:
Super Critical Mass is an innovative sound arts project which explores the dynamics of multiple identical instruments performing en masse. Conceived and curated by composer and sound artist Julian Day, sound artist Luke Jaaniste and contemporary flautist Janet McKay, the Super Critical Mass project is a series of ongoing events. Each performance-installation is unique, responding to the ever-changing group of performers and the unique architecture of each performance space.
Presented as part of the Aurora Music Festival this sound installation aims to provide an immersive experience for the audience. Arranged using repeated 'algorithms' for both sound and movement, these phrases layer and build to create a complex and textured multisensory performance. Improvised and unpredictable the resulting music is strange and beautiful - cacophonous one moment and harmonious the next.
