Metro sustainability leaders to shine at KAB NSW Awards

posted: 2 Oct 2018
The prestigious Keep Australia Beautiful NSW 2018 Sustainable Cities Awards are here again.
This year’s event, held onWednesday 17 October from 10am-3pm at the Featherdale Wildlife Park, Doonside, will be hosted by 2017 Sustainable Cities Award winner, Blacktown City Council.

Join us for a morning of topical waste and recycling presentations and projects by prominent industry experts, followed by the awards presentation and an Aussie BBQ lunch.

These important Awards recognise and support communities, schools, businesses and councils that actively work towards making Sydney a prime model for sustainable practices across all sectors of the community and industry.

Val Southam, CEO of Keep Australia Beautiful NSW believes that the Sustainable Cities Awards are, however, more than just about receiving or giving accolades.

“This important Awards Program showcases the best of the best and is a fantastic opportunity to learn from other participants, build important networks and showcase the work of tireless council and  community efforts.”

This year’s Sustainable Cities Award program was again very competitive, with an excellent response from across Sydney.

“Each year we are impressed with the quality of entries, and we always look forward to seeing how councils and communities deal with their own environmental challenges”, said Ms Southam.

“It has been a tough few weeks of judging, but we were able to identify those local areas that are doing an outstanding job. There can only be one Sustainable Cities Overall State Winner, but all the finalists are to be commended for their efforts.”

The Overall Category on the ground assessor, Peter Clark commented that this year’s diverse range of entries were of a very high calibre.

“It is uplifting to see communities work hard at the coal-face to address sustainability and waste issues.

“All the finalists deserve recognition for their persistent efforts and we look forward to seeing which community is considered to have had the most impact”, Peter said.

The 2018 finalists for the coveted Sustainable Cities Overall State Winner are:

  • Northern Beaches Council
  • Bayside Council
  • Inner West Council
  • City of Canada Bay Council

The Sustainable Cities Awards Program relies on the generosity of its sponsors, including the NSW EPA and the Return and Earn Program.
