The Blacktown Visitor Information & Heritage Centre

The Blacktown Visitor Information & Heritage Centre inspires visitors to engage with Blacktown's rich culture and heritage. It is one of the few only remaining heritage buildings in Blacktown City and features an historical exhibition. The building itself used to house the former Blacktown Public School, which in 1877, was the first school to ever open in Blacktown. It remained a school until the early 1990's. In 2007, the building underwent extensive renovations and became the City's first Accredited Visitor Information Centre.

The centre is the only place where you can purchase unique 'Blacktown' merchandise in the city, including the official 'I Love Blacktown' T Shirt, and is also a valuable source of information about things to do and see in Blacktown City. Pop in for a visit from Tuesday to Saturday 10am-3pm.

Rouse Hill House and Farm

Rouse Hill house and farm is an historic property which archives the lives, tastes and fortunes of an Australian pastoral family. Over seven generations of the Rouse family lived at the c1813 property. Explore the 19th Century farm outbuildings, paddocks, gardens, machinery and the rich collection of objects overlaid with later additions and conserved intact as an essentially undisturbed record of a family's long history.

At the heart of the property lies a Georgian sandstone dwelling built between 1813 and 1818 by convict labourers assigned to the free-settler, Richard Rouse.

St Bartholomews Church and Cemetery

St Bartholomew’s Church, which opened in 1841, was the first church to be built in the Prospect area. It came to be when William Lawson called for tenders for the building of the Church in 1838, after securing community interest two years prior. Records show the first baptisms held at the Church were of Margaret, Mary and James Goodin, on 2 May 1841. Sadly, Margaret’s elder sister, Ann, and Margaret herself were the first burials on 18 July 1841.

The Church operated until the end of 1967, when, due to a major vandalism attack, it was closed. Blacktown City Council purchased the property in 2001 and saw major restoration works.

The Church is of Colonial Georgian design, being a rectangular brick structure with a nave, chancel and two vestries, each vestry having an entrance door.  The main entrance is through the bell tower at the front of the building. The tower has a square base with an octagonal belfry. The bell has recently been reinstated to the tower
